Jillian (Jill) Orticelli is an experienced litigator who takes great satisfaction in representing seriously injured people whose lives have been irreparably changed by catastrophic events. Jill’s practice focuses on cases of complex medical malpractice, personal injury, and wrongful death. She has extensive experience in state and federal trial courts and courts of appeal and is known for her compassion and tenacity in litigation. Prior to joining Slager Madry, Jill served the public as an Assistant United States Attorney in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Connecticut, where she handled the district’s most complex medical malpractice, injury, and death cases and was honored with the Civil Division Distinguished Service Award. As an AUSA, Jill worked tirelessly to ensure people involved in high stakes litigation were treated fairly and respectfully by the government. She handled some of the most significant civil cases the federal government faced in the District of Connecticut, including numerous catastrophic event cases involving seven- and eight-figure recoveries.
In addition to catastrophic personal injury cases, Jill is proud to represent crime victims and survivors of sexual abuse. It is her greatest privilege to help survivors obtain recovery as a part of their healing journey. Jill is trained in trauma-informed techniques and previously served as an independent investigator in sexual abuse and misconduct investigations; this background gives her a unique understanding and ability to advocate tenaciously against organizations who bear responsibility for abuse perpetrated on their watch.
In keeping with the core principles of Slager Madry, Jill devotes her work exclusively to cases involving serious consequences, and only after conducting a detailed investigation to determine that the case has merit. She will pursue a case only if doing so will serve the interests of justice.
Jill is a Connecticut native. She attended the University of Connecticut School of Law, where she served as Notes & Comments Editor on the Connecticut Law Review and was elected to the Moot Court Board. After law school, Jill clerked for Connecticut’s first female Supreme Court Chief Justice, Ellen Ash Peters, and Chief Judge Antoinette L. DuPont at the Connecticut Appellate Court and practiced with AmLaw firms in Hartford. Jill lives in Hartford County with her family, where she volunteers for various organizations serving children and people with disabilities.
